and then she snapped: before and after dining room

before and after dining room

I'm back with another edition of Drechsel family house style. This time we'll be covering the dining room. And...it's not that big, so it won't take too long.

Here's the dining room before we moved in. I really liked their fancy chandelier, but alas, the previous owners took it with them and replaced it with the original (fugly) contractor grade version.

Here's what we did:

Painted (Pratt and Lambert - lambswool, of course)
Replaced fugly contractor chandelier with something simple in oil rubbed bronze
Took out the nasty white carpet and put in some sweet hardwood floors. (ka-ching!)
Replaced not our style old lady valance with something simple aka more my style
Replaced our old wobbly table and chairs with a bargain craigslist set. (SCORE!)
Subsequently replaced cream cushions on dining chairs with some khaki stuff
Hung some art found at Ross
And most recently, bought a new buffet that Maia says is more "me" (she's so right)

I know we are no Sherry and John, but I am in a total project mood today and we have no plans this weekend, so hopefully I'll get some of the things I'm thinking about doing done this weekend so I can tell you all about it, before and after style!

  1. I hope they let you keep that awesome puzzle on the table.

And the buffet thingie is super duper and yes, probably more your style. Looking forward to seeing your completed projects, Lady.

  5. I love house style posts. And I really like your changes. They definitely brought your dining room out of the "old lady" realm.

We're in a constant state of remodel with both our house in VA and the rental we live in. I would love to post before and after of our bedroom or office, but MacGyver has just a little more to do in each room.
