road trip!

Not mine. I don't road trip. But Clare and Sean are more than halfway to their destination! They left Tacoma, WA on Tuesday morning and are now in Albuquerque, NM! I literally had to look at a map when she was texting me updates as to what state they were in. I am so geographically challenged...Anyway 2400ish miles seems like is a LOT. I wonder if they have run out of things to talk about?

If we are facebook friends then you may have already seen these (sorry!), but if not, these are photos from my sister's going away parties. (yes, plural).

I went to the third (and final) going away party for my seester this evening. She is heading out Tuesday morning for the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. (That's the southern-most part of Texas, and it's about as close as you can get to Mexico without actually going to Mexico). She and her man are driving down there and then she begins six weeks of training for Teach For America. She's going to be an awesome teacher!

This will be quite an adventure for her...a new state, a new career, and new friends. She knows the general area she'll be teaching in, and that it will be middle school level, but she doesn't yet know what subject, or what specific school. So until then they won't know what town they'll be living in. Hopefully she'll get her assignment sooner than than later so they'll be able to look for a place to live for the next two years!

I'm totally going to miss her, but it's going to be so great for her that I can't be sad. And plus, we have so much technology that allows us to keep in touch that it really doesn't make a difference if she's across town, or across the country!

I hate saying goodbye though. I kind of suck at it. So I'll say what my Grandma always says, "Bye for now!" Love you Clare, you are totally going to kick ass.

Won't you join me and show off your shot...it's easy!
1) Pick your favorite shot of the week, or one that you otherwise feel like "showing off".
2) Show it off!

That's it!

My dad Andreas Vegan was there!

thanksgiving, part two

I begged suggested to my mom the other day that maybe we should celebrate my sister's birthday a couple weeks early with another turkey dinner. (Since I ran out of leftovers and all). She was totally on board and threw together a scrumptious "Thanksgiving" dinner 3 days after Thanksgiving, invited a few of my sister's friends, and entertained a houseful. It was yummy. And sorry, Clare, for dipping my turkey in your vegan gravy. Oops. But damn girl, that gravy was delish.

swampy draws at the spar. aka I went out past dark.

My sister's boyfriend is in a band, called Swampy Draws, and after all this time I still hadn't seen them play, so when I found out that they were playing at my favorite tavern and (halfway) early, I decided I better not miss my chance!
my sister, me, and my mom. waiting for the show to start.

courtenay and clare, BFFs since way back when

my dad, my cousin, and Swampy himself!

some old (seriously drugged?) guys and a half nekkid girl with a tamborine

more old guys...the Blue Baboons (and Ted Brown)

finally! Swampy Draws! these guys are awesome. really funny, really offensive, and unlike anything I've ever heard before.

why yes, that IS my mom singing these boots are made for walking.
she always wanted to be a backup singer.

happy fathers' day

To MY Dad. Who is changing his name to Andreas Vegan (because it sounds cool?). And who is teaching my kids that it's "ok to be different". I love him.

(linking up for Naked Sunday)

And to the Dad of my kids. An amazing man. I love him too!

And my Uncle Chic (Charlie's namesake).

And Samantha (my "other" daughter).

And my brother, Lars (I think he was pretending to talk on the phone in order to not talk about food while he's on an 8 day cleanse).

Papa and Charlie looking for airplanes.

Charlie so happy to be sweeping.

Me, Andreas Vegan, and my seester.

Again.

The gal who made my honey a Dad way back in 1999.

Thank you to Clare for hosting a fun Fathers' Day BBQ, and thank you for serving food that had been "touched by a human cow*", even though you don't eat it.

* our dad thinks vegan food is food that has never been touched by a human cow. (see above where he's teaching my kids that it's ok to be weird different).

show {off} your shot

Hi Friends!  I hope you're not too disappointed, but I don't have a tip this week.  I got sick sick sick last night and while my tummy has finally settled down today I still feel like I got hit by a mack truck.  Oh, and did I mention that we got new carpet in half our house today (and the other half is happening tomorrow) and getting new carpet is basically like MOVING, because you have to pack and move EVERYTHING off of the old carpet.

So I decided to take a couple (really bad) pictures and maybe apply to be on that hoarders show:

this was the upstairs hallway last night when we emptied all three kids' bedrooms into it

and this is our living room this night as we emptied the den and the coat closet downstairs into it

Just so you know, our new carpet is NOT pink (I told you, these pictures are really bad)!  It's a taupe-y brown frieze and I luuuuurrrve it.
PS Who wants to come over tomorrow night and help me put everything back?

Moving right along, my fave from last week is from my seeeeeester, Clare, who blogs at this is me, getting a life (by the way, Clare hosts a new linky called Naked Sundays, which is not exactly what you think, but you should check it out anyway).  I love this shot she took at Pt Defiance Park.  The depth of field is perfect.  By the way, it's an amazing park, and you should totally come visit me so you can go there.

Here's your winner button, Clare:
