charlie is three (and then some)

I figure if I'm not yet a month overdue then I'm still a good blogger mom, right? I'm just remembering the days when I used to have my kids birthday posts all scheduled, complete with annual slideshow PRIOR to their birthday so on the actual day I could have it automatically post. I do not know who that person is anymore. It is certainly not me. Now I have this whole entire LIST of things I need to do, I WANT to do and I can't seem to make any headway on it.

So here is me crossing one tiny thing off that list:

Way back on the 28th of January Charlie Pete turned THREE! We started off birthday WEEKEND with donuts at Legendary donuts. (Pao's is still number one in my book).

(Happy Birthday to me shirt was $2.97 at Old Navy, so he wore it all weekend).
Then we headed to the Childrens' "Mu-zoo-men" of Tacoma. Grace and Chris enjoyed posing (per usual). Camden and Charlie ran around like crazy people played.

Next we went to Wendy's for lunch and Charlie drank ketchup. Because duh. (Check instagram for pics of that extraordinary event). And then we topped it off with dinner at Blazing Onion. Because why ruin a perfectly good meal with anything other than french fries and ketchup?

On his actual birthday, a Monday, we met friends at none other than McDonald's for a roaring good time. Grace and Camden got to come too, because there was no school that day for some reason that escapes me now. The lighting inside McDonald's was atrocious. So black and white makes it look more like I know how to use my camera.

We rounded out the birthday weekend with cake and candles. And the birthday boy learning how to show three fingers. And still wearing the Happy Birthday to Me clearance shirt. (Which has now been retired). Who's turning three next? I'll send it your way!

Happy Birthday, Little Man! I love you to the moon and back!

I promise I will try to pay more attention to this blog, but just in case, make sure you follow me on instagram @andthenshesnapped so you don't miss a thing.

happy birthday bev

One of my favorite people in the whole world, my auntie Bev, has a birthday today. Except she's not getting any older, because she passed away more than three years ago.

We took so many camping trips when I was young. My dad and her husband (his brother) had matching trucks and campers. And boating trips (they also shared a boat). She was our neighbor (at Mine and Chris' first house) for 10 plus years, and was "Nana" to Grace and Camden. She was so funny (even when she wasn't trying to be). She loved shopping for purses and shoes as much as I do. She was like a mom to me, we really were the best of friends.

Sometimes it literally hits me like a ton of bricks how much I miss her. Like this week while I was shopping at Macy's, browsing the purse department, and remembering how many times we did that together. I even noticed certain styles that I knew she would have liked.

Or when I ran into Bev's sister the other day and was struck by the resemblances between the two. And when her sister saw Charlie she said, "oh, how Bev would have loved Charlie". Because she totally would have. And it makes me so damn sad that he never got to know Nana.

PS I fucking hate cancer.

thirteen

Happy Birthday Grace! I can't believe I am the mom to a teenager. A beautiful, smart, kind, responsible, thrifty (but not as thrifty as me), hilarious (again, not as hilarious as me) teenager!

Surprise dinner at Masa!

I love you with my whole heart!

New #tcbygrocery Froyo!

Remember TCBY? There used to be a TCBY near my house when I was in high school, and I remember going there and loading up on "fro-yo" with all the toppings. Well TCBY is BACK at your local Walmart with frozen yogurt and frozen treats. (see my shopping trip pics here) In our family, we know ice cream. We LOVE ice cream, so I jumped at the chance to be one of the first to try this new product when it hit shelves this month! We invited some friends over to help try out this new product and we were all pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was. None of the things we tried tasted "light" or "healthy" at all, but they actually do have reasonable calories per serving.

We celebrated Camden's 8th birthday with a TCBY Froyo par-TAY! We got all the treats, and the frozen yogurt flavors, and toppings, because what kind of party is a party without toppings? (Not any one that I'd want to attend that's for sure)!

Gavin chose Supreme Cookies & Cream with whipped cream.

Blaine went for a Chocolate Fudge Bar

Myles enjoyed a Chocolate Fudge Bar as well

Alec couldn't wait to dig into his Supreme Cookies & Cream, caramel sauce, and whipped cream.

Camden ate Supreme Cookies & Cream, Mint Chocolate Chip, caramel sauce, whipped cream, and a cherry, while Charlie demanded MORE!

Charlie tried the Supreme cookies and cream. He licked his bowl. Twice.

Tula chose "green", and thought that the mint was finger licking good. It was so popular that we ran out! I'll definitely be getting more of that!

Everybody enjoyed the TCBY thoroughly. I personally tried the english toffee crunch with some caramel sauce, whipped cream, and a cherry. After the kids went to bed I decided I should probably have an orange and vanilla bar as well. Both were DELICIOUS. Let me know if you decide to try it, because I'll come over and eat it with you. YUM!

I actually took some pictures this week! Yay me! Today we celebrated Chris' birthday, he went on a long ride this morning, while Charlie and I made a "birthday apple pie", at Chris' request. For dinner we went out to eat with some awesome friends, and then we came home and ate pie as a family. Charlie has been kind of sick all weekend, with a crummy cough and a snotty nose, and hasn't been quite as happy as normal (as you can see by these pictures). Also, do you notice anything funny about the middle shot?

oh HEY! I'm just sitting here in my new chair that I got for my birthday! (thanks, Mom!) What's up with you? I celebrated my birthday this weekend starting with dinner at my mom's on Friday night with my crazy family. Saturday night we got together at our house with Chris' family to celebrate a whole quarter's worth of birthdays with prime rib. OMG, we had never MADE prime rib before, and it was seriously DELISH. US. Oh, and we had red velvet cake BOTH nights, because apparently red velvet cake is in right now.

L-R: Lars, Sean, Crystal (gonna wear a black bra next time), Chris, Me, Clare
Aren't we all so attractive?

I like cake.

I am just loving this shot of my grandparents, so that's why I'm showing it off this week. They were CRACKING. up. It was awesome.

happy birthday sundae

Donuts for breakfast.
Mac and cheese for lunch.
Mac and cheese, fries, and dip for dinner.
Sundae for dessert.

It's good being two. Obviously.

dear charlie, you're TWO!

Dear Charlie,

I literally cannot believe that you are TWO years old. You are totally a genius, probably because I let you watch lots of TV and play lots of games on your ipod.

You talk more than any other two year old I know. And I can’t remember for sure, but I’m pretty sure you talk more than your sister did at your age, and that is saying something. You are constantly amazing me (not to mention cracking me up) with your vacabulary. Just today you were wandering around after lunch singing “No NAP, Mommy” over and over, until I put you down for a nap. You insist on TWO blankies at nap, as well as baby, and monkey, and turtle, and little doggie, and big doggie, and cow, and...WAIT just a minute, have you mastered STALLING?! You almost had me there, dude, but I am catching on to you.

We’ve been gearing up for your birthday party and you always always always say that you want to “wear birthday hat (on) my head”, and you want balloons, and you want to “eat donuts”. Which, I think we can do. You only turn two once so I think we will go ahead and splurge for the donuts, balloons, AND birthday hats this year, since I’m thinking when you’re sixteen it might cost a little more to keep you happy.

You love to “play choo choo train cars, mommy”
You love to “read ‘nother book mommy”
You love to “jump high” from the ottoman to the couch
You love to drink “hot milk”
You love to say “come, come”
You love to “I ride my bike”
You love to “eat lunch” (even if it’s breakfast or dinner)
You love to eat a “treat” which means you want a sucker, pretty much every time you get in a shopping cart
You love to play with other kids
You love to “call Nanny”

I just love watching how your mind works. It’s funny seeing your mind working and your mouth trying to come up with the words you are trying to say. I know I say it all. the. time...but it’s pretty darn cute.

When you wake up in the morning you yell, “mommy, mommy, mommy” over and over and over again until I come get you up. The second I open your door you stop yelling and say, “Hi, Mommy!” which instantly melts my heart and has the effect of making me forget that you’ve been yelling my name for 50 minutes. See, I told you you were a genius.

Happy Birthday Big Boy!

I love love love you,
Love, Mom
xxoo

weekend wrap up

This weekend flew by, and we were BUSY! Saturday morning we hit up Fircrest Fun Days, which wasn’t actually THAT fun, except for the two dozen mini donuts that we ate, and the fact that we met up with our friends the Simlers there:

In the evening we dropped the kids off at mimi and papa’s and went to Jillian’s for Chris’ 20 year reunion. Only we didn’t go to the official reunion, which was a formal (rather expensive) event the night before. Instead we sent out a facebook event for a no-host casual evening and got a ton of response. We estimated there were probably about 75 people there! (Although you wouldn’t know it by the number of photos I took). We met up with our good friends Mike and Shannon for dinner beforehand at Racha (mmmm). Mike was in Chris’ high school class and you already know Shannon is one of my good friends so that was fun.

Sunday morning we picked the kids UP from mimi and papa’s and headed over to Chris’ sister’s house to celebrate some birthdays with cousins. You know it’s going to be a good day when you eat two cakes before noon. Coffee cake and the Drechsel family traditional ice cream birthday cake!

That’s about it. We came home to a clean house and a bunch of laundry. Looking forward to the week ahead with not a lot on the agenda!
