and then she snapped: we made it! home!

we made it! home!

Well, after a fabulous vacation with Chris' parents in warm and beautiful Palm Springs we have finally made it home.  But it wasn't easy I tell you.  Our flight was at 6:45 pm and Chris' parents live close to the airport so we planned to leave for the airport at 5. We ate an early dinner beforehand at 4, because we didn't want to be hungry on the plane (you know they don't feed you anymore on those flights, right?)  During dinner Charlie hunkered down and did his regular pooping face (like he usually does), only this time it didn't sound regular at all.  When I checked his pants I didn't have to check very far, because OMG diarrhea was pouring out of the top of his diaper and up his back.  OMG OMG OMG!  We all sprung into action, I got him in the tub, Mimi got his clothes in the washing machine, and Chris lysoled (that's a word, right?) his booster seat.  Thank the GOOD Lord that this happened at the house, instead of on the plane.  Because if it happened on the plane I for sure would have been the one crying.

Anyway, I digress.  So we got him cleaned up, finished packing and made our way to the airport in plenty of time only to find out that our plane was delayed.  (I know, we totally should have checked ahead of time, but somehow we didn't!)  Our 6:45 flight was now scheduled for 9:07 (which ended up getting re-scheduled to 9:28, but whatever).  Chris called his parents to see if they could come and get us and take us back to their house for a couple hours since we had already turned in our rental car, but they were basking in the glory of an empty house reading outside and didn't hear the phone ring.

No problem, we'll just hang out at the airport. At least we're in PS where it's WARM, and they have a nice little playground for the kids Camden, and they have free wifi* for the rest of us. Plus, I had my camera so what else did I need? (Oh, Starbucks? Yeah, we had that too). I decided to take some (ok, maybe 50) pictures keeping composition and perspective (like we talked about yesterday in the SITS photo challenge) in mind (these are all unedited except for the palm trees, obviously).

Charlie started off cranky:

Charlie still cranky:

Chris getting a surprise ready for Charlie on his new computer (thanks for your leftovers, Mimi!) while Charlie plays with my lens cap (yup, that's the remnants of our first Starbucks trip you see):

All is good when George is on!  Grace is reading (what?  she's not presently on her laptop?) and Camden is playing his DS.  Such nice family bonding time, huh?":

Happy watching George:

So e v e n t u a l l y it's time to board, and the plane isn't very full so after a little sweet taking we're able to get Charlie a seat and get him buckled in his carseat.  And he is OH SO TIRED.  But he is OH SO NOT GOING TO SLEEP.  We try giving him a bottle of milk.  We try letting him watch George.  But he just is so tired and so cranky and so crying.  I think about feeling bad (for the other passengers), but really, what am I gonna do about it?  He's tired, and he's crying.  I'm trying to help him go to sleep and it is so not working. He just wants to be in his bed (and I don't blame him, I want to be in MY bed too). And really, all I'm thinking is that I'll take this crying over that diarrhea any day.  Especially at 37 thousand feet.  He eventually does fall asleep (and who cares that it was about 30 minutes before we landed?)

We're home!
(and yes, it's raining).

* my nephew, Nick, reminded me that his uncle (my brother) Pete, once asked, "what the hell is a free wi-fi", which, if you knew Pete at all is very very funny.
