and then she snapped: show {off} your shot

show {off} your shot

I asked my husband and my daughter to choose this week's favorite shot and they both (independently chose) Mira Crisp's amazing castle shot:

here's your winner button, Mira:

and then, she {snapped}

This week my tip is regarding fill flash.  Fill flash is when you use a flash to minimize the shadows caused by bright sun.  (I'm sure that's not the technical definition, but that's what I use it for).  So here are Grace and Charlie playing in the pool.  It is obviously bright out so why on earth would I turn on the flash?

See how their faces are all dark?
(I was shooting in aperture priority)

So for this shot I kept the settings the same (still using aperture priority), but I turned on the pop up flash.  See how now their faces are much brighter?

The flash did make the photo just a little too bright, but at least I can see their faces.  So with a little levels adjustment (bringing up the blacks just a tad), and a little crop I'm left with this:

(yeah, I know, I totally make cute kids)
Now it's your turn!  What tip can you share this week?

Rules Guidelines:
~One photo per person, and the photo must be taken by you.
~Blog about your photo and share something about how you took the photo, or how you edited it.  (Please don't skip this part, because it is so fun to be able to learn from one another).
~Add my button (below) to your blog post...(text links are ok too, but please do link back to me or I might cry)
~Link up to your blog or Flickr page, (but please link up to your specific post and not just your blog homepage...if I can't tell what post you are linking up I will have to delete the entry).

If you have ANY questions, feel free to email me.

I can't wait to see what you come up with this week!

Ready?  GO, and  show {off} your shot!

  1. You bring up a great point about flash - sometimes it's needed even on sunny days as fill light. I think your photo looks great!
