and then she snapped: before and after of a different kind

before and after of a different kind

So I haven't yet decided whether to partake in another project 365, and frankly I've been too busy to even think about it right now.  It's tax season, which means when the babe is sleeping I really SHOULD be doing taxes (as opposed to blogging), and since we recently decided NOT to pursue moving I have a renewed interest in making our own house a little more kick ass.  (Remember this post?  I'm loving all of your suggestions, but still haven't come to a conclusion as to what to do quite yet).  In the meantime I have taken on a few smaller projects around the house...one of which is a new TV stand for the family room.  But first, let me back up because it is probably my favorite transformation in my entire house.

This is our family room, before it was our family room...as in, I took this picture when we first toured the house (so that's the old owners' stuff, not mine).  We were very excited to finally have a "great room" off the kitchen, but the TV being up that high literally made my neck hurt.  And i was really not a fan of the fake tan gone bad color on the walls, and the carpet desperately needed replacing in there.

And this is our family room after we moved in, painted, added hardwood floors, and my Dad built us some crazy sweet built-ins.
(If you're quick you MAY notice that this shot was taken at Christmas)

But the TV stand seemed like an afterthought, and never really looked finished.
(see those white stands over there where the TV sits?)

So I got an idea that if I got something that would fit the width of the space better, and maybe make it dark (instead of white), so it would blend in better that I would be much happier.  We looked at Ikea last weekend, but didn't find anything.  But then this week I happened to be at Target (I know, you're surprised) and found the PERFECT stand.  Literally the PERFECT measurements, and exactly what I was looking for.  And on sale for $59 dollars!  So I scooped it up, took it home, and put it together after the babe was down for the night.  (I may or may not have gotten a little bit sweaty--it took me almost TWO hours!)

And it's PERFECT!  I love it!
Problem solved.

  11. I think it looks great! Your dad did a fantastic job on the built-ins!!

We had a very similar set up, in our prior house, and one thing that I had major trouble with was keeping our toddlers (triplets) from touching all of the dials on the stereo. If you run in to a similar issue, we found that if you cut out a piece of plexiglass (approximately 12" x 24" for your space) and velcro it OVER the stereo equipment, it works fantastic. Plus, you can still work the remote, since it "sees" through the plexiglass.

Love the space - very warm!
