I opened the file in PSE8 and removed the color cast by clicking on a black spot with my eyedropper tool. Then I created a levels adjustment layer and brought both sliders in towards the middle a bit (the right one more so). Then I used the dodge tool (range-highlights at 20% exposure) to brighten her eyes, and the sharpen tool at 33% just on her eyelashes. I created a duplicate layer and set it to soft light and reduced opacity of that layer to 50%. Then I cropped it and that's it. Took about 5 mins. What do you think?
Wonderful touch up! I'm in love with her freckles!
ReplyDeleteshe is a cutie. Great edit
ReplyDeleteI think it’s a great edit and such an adorable little face!
ReplyDeleteGreat edit- adorable face!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love the shot. One question: is it possible to change the color cast of the girl and keep the rich blues of the sky? (I'm a total PS novice, so I couldn't tell you how.) Still, it is a huge improvement! Well done!
ReplyDeletei have no idea what you're talking about but i think it looks great! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful photo! You make it sound so easy. I wish I could take photos and edit them like that. I have two very handsome little guys at home that just never smile for the camera when I take them to the portrait studio. It would be nice to do be able to do things like this at home.
ReplyDeleteReally great editing. She is so cute.
ReplyDeleteLove the pink cheeks; really conveys the crisp fall air! Great edit.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I see I missed a ton of cute pics to comment on; that will be remedied soon.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful edit! Such a great shot and I love how you cropped it. Such a sweet little model!

ReplyDeleteNice edit & her freckles are to die for!!! :D
ReplyDeleteBeautiful transformation! it changes the whole look...you're really getting good at this!
ReplyDeleteI love it.
ReplyDeletethank you all for the comments. totally makes my day! and rachelshoots, you CAN selectively edit a part of the photo, using a layer mask. photoshop elements doesn't have layer masks built in, but you can download a free action from the coffeeshop which creates one for you. and in this particular photo, that's actually not the sky behind her, it's a white tent. weird, huh? Oh, and also, I should make it clear I can't take credit for her...she doesn't belong to me. : )
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely loved the colours in the thumbnail at Darcy's and had to come check it out. What a sweetie, you've really captured her... and the colours... to die for.
