We lost power last night, around seven o'clock. Charlie was already asleep, I had just posted my potd, the rest of the family was watching tv. It flickered a few times and then was out. CRAP. No internet! What on earth were we going to do? Camden ran to get his DS, and Grace her ipod touch and they played games by the light of their screens.
I updated my facebook status via my cellphone real quick (priorities!) and then we all proceeded to stare at each other wondering what was going to happen next. A few minutes passed and we learned that when the power goes out that the smoke alarm goes on battery backup. And apparently, when they tell you that you're supposed to replace your batteries twice a year they mean it. Because that's when ALL of our smoke alarms started chirping, to alert us that all of our batteries were dead. Every two minutes. OMG, not annoying. at. all. I texted my neighbor friend Katie to see if SHE had any 9-volt batteries lying around. (she didn't, and she had much bigger problems...a three year old puking. in a garbage can. as Katie held a flashlight for him.) Chris threatened to go out on the icy covered roads to the nearest convenience store to get replacement batteries. But I didn't want him risking his life AND paying upwards of $9.99 a pop, so he instead moved some batteries around, so that the only alarms that were chirping were the ones in the kids' rooms, so we closed their doors to lessen the noise, and let the kids sleep in our room since we have a fireplace in there. And we all went to bed by 8:30.
the end.
the end.
ha! what a crazy story. your slumber party with the fireplace sounds so cozy, too :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, this is great. I remember the power once went out for eight minutes and my husband and I didn't know what to do with ourselves. We ended up singing Lady Marmalade over and over like idiots. Shh, don't tell. =D
ReplyDeleteLove these photos. And I'm glad you didn't have to hunt around by the light of the DS to find out which one was chirping since they all decided to bite the dust.
