and then she snapped: wordless wednesday but with words

wordless wednesday but with words

I used to take my kids to a local photography studio every year (or every six months before their 5th birthday), and would order myself up a nice 8x10 for purposes of that being their photo for that year displayed on our mantel (we don't do the school portraits, because let's face it, they are ugly). But lately the studio photos have been getting worse and worse (or maybe my standards are getting higher?) so now I usually take them myself. I just printed our new photos for the mantel and I just wanted to share them with you. They may be my favorite set yet.

Would you believe Grace took this of herself? At arm's length? Seriously, she's amazing. I have no idea how she got the focus so PERFECT. Maybe she's just lucky. ; ) This is a little early for her 13 year old picture, (it's more like 12 3/4), but it'll do.

Camden wanted me to take his "8 year old picture" while we were in Palm Springs, so we had a little photo shoot while we were there. This one I ended up cropping and brightening up quite a bit, but I love how it turned out.

My friend SuLee caught this one of Charlie when she was over last week. Charlie actually just had his two year old photo taken at a local studio, but I hated it. So this replaces it at 2 1/4. I cropped and brightened it, and converted to black and white. It just screams "Charlie" to me. I love it.

I don't really "get" Wordless Wednesday. So around here words are totally OK, and actually encouraged! So if you like words too and want to link up your "Wordless Wednesday, but with Words", please do. And if it's Thursday by the time you get around to it, well heck, that's OK too.

  20. Fab photos! School photos are never good, so I did the school photos myself at my son's school last week. Fun, but I'll stick to just being OCD about my own kids photos from now on:)

  21. These are so great. I love them.

Taking our monster to the studio is a disaster. Never again. I take so many pictures of her - there are at least one or two worthy of reprint and handing out to family.

I am going to have to break down and find a photographer for the family photos. It has been over a year

  29. Gorgeous pictures of stunning children! I don't blame you not taking them to the studio. I used to always either do that, or schedule a session with a pro at our house or some other location. Now, except for maybe some family portraits, that I would actually like to BE in, I don't take them anywhere anymore, either!

  30. Those photos are WAY better than any portrait studio package. So beautiful!

  31. Beautiful photos! So great to be able to take them yourself and save the money the studios charge.

  32. Love these photos of your kids and I agree with everyone..they are way better than any in-a-rush studio could ever capture. My boys are still young (1 and 3) so for the first year of life we had a professional lifestyle photographer take newborn, 6 month and 1 year photos. I imagine now we will just do photos of them once a year but I treasure the photos we have of them. I don't think I'll ever do the studio again. now that I'm getting better shooting in manual and my photos are improving it's a lot of fun to watch them change through my lens.

  33. Beautiful photos. I totally understand what you mean about the portrait studios and there boring posed pics. I too take a lot of my kids portraits, but still find myself headed to a studio or a local small business photographer to get family shots. Sometimes it's just easier to sit back and let someone else do the work, esp. with 3 kids under 5.
