what camden said

We were at lunch today when Camden asked if Charlie was born from a C-section (yes) or if he and Grace were (no). Then he asked how babies were born if they weren't born from a C-section.

He said, "oh, I know, you just have to push really really hard"
"well, yes" I replied,
"...until your stomach bursts open!" he said

"um, we'll talk about it later", I said.

what camden said

Camden said if you want a baby you have to "make out" every night.

Sounds about right.

what camden said

Here's the scene:

Just Camden and I are in the car, rocking out to a little Beiber Christmas (specifically THIS song wherein I thought Justin Bieber sounded a lot like Mariah Carey only to find out it actually IS Mariah Carey, thank God), when I hear fake vomiting noises coming from the backseat.

"Mom, I hate this, turn it off," (followed by more wretching and fake vomiting noises).

A minute later:

"Actually, this is pretty catchy!"

(You guys, it totally is catchy...especially THIS song, Shorty)

tuesday afternoon

On the way home from school we passed some teenagers rolling around on the grass and I literally laughed out loud. I said, "WHAT are they doing?" to which Camden promptly replied, "Mom, that's called making out, don't you know!?" Um, how does my SEVEN year old know what making out is?

In other news...Camden brought home a cub scout information flyer and tells me he wants to sign up and insists that everybody else is doing it (although he could only name like two other boys). But here's the thing...I feel like I've heard before that the boy scouts organization has an anti-gay policy, and I'm sure I don't want Camden to be a part of that. Did I dream this policy up or is it a real thing? And how many of you use the parenting technique where you say, "yes, we will talk about it later", fully counting on the fact that if I throw that flyer away he'll never remember it until it's too late and then I'll say, "oh, darn, it's too late"? Oh, it's just me?

overheard

The sounds of a kid plunking around on the piano and the muffled sound of some kind of football game on the tv.

Chris: "Hey, Myles? What are you doing?"
Myles (our 5 year old neighbor boy): "Playing the piano" (Duh)
Chris: "I think the (other) boys went outside to play"
Myles: "I know" (resume piano playing)
I think it's awesome that he'd rather stay in here and play the piano even though his older brother and Camden are outside playing in the rain. I'd probably make the same choice though since the last time the three of them were together I heard the older boys telling him he should probably just go home. When he protested Camden said, "fine, you can play with us, but you have to just sit right there and not talk".

It must suck being the little brother.

remember when

Remember when you were a seven year old boy and would put off going pee until the absolute last possible millisecond so that you'd have to come RUNNING into the house trying to unzip your pants as fast as you can and hope against all hope to make it to the toilet? (At least most of it)?

You don't?
Me neither!
WTH is up with seven year old boys?

what camden said

I overheard Chris asking Camden if he knew what Memorial Day was all about. His response (and I could HEAR the eyerolling), "YES, Dad! It's when dads don't have to go to work and kids don't have to go to school".

Thank you to all of those men and women who have given their lives for our country, (so that Camden could stay home from school today).

What Camden Said

Camden:  "Dad, when is my bank account?"
Chris:  "Um, what?"
Camden:  "You know, where we go and eat pizza and get our trophies?"
Chris:  "Oh...your Basketball Banquet is on Thursday"

What Camden Said

I am constantly (and I mean that literally) having to remind Camden to wear a coat, or a sweatshirt, or SOMETHING, when he goes outside.  His reply?

Mom, do you know what my super power is?  I NEVER get cold.

What Camden Said

Today Camden asked me if dick was a bad word, I told him it's not a very nice word, but that it can also be somebody's name.

Then he said, "I wish MY name was Dick"

What Camden Said

"really, Mom?," Camden says as I'm putting on my coat, "that's pretty old lady looking."

"Well, Camden," I replied, "I guess I am pretty old lady then."

What Camden Said

This morning Camden asked me if Jesus lived "here" (as opposed to up in Heaven).  I said he used to live here, like 2,000 years ago and he says, "were you alive then?"

What Camden Said

Camden:  Mom, can you come here for a minute?
Me:  Not right now, honey, I'm busy.
Camden:  Mom, Please?  It will just be a gypsy.

???

Me:  What?
Camden:  It will just be a gypsy, like two seconds.

(pretty sure he meant jiffy).

What Camden Said

"Mom, I know what the first two people ever were named.  Even and Odd."

Ooops, I think that means we've missed Sunday school a few too many weeks.

What Camden Said

This morning Camden asked me why our neighbor, Little Jesse, had the same name as his dad, Big Jesse. I said, well, sometimes people give their sons the same name as their dad, like Uncle Tom has the same name as Papa Tom.

"They do? What name?"

What Camden Said

This morning we were reminding Camden again to do all his getting ready for school chores, but he just wanted to eat breakfast.  again.

"Dad, breakfast is the most important chore.  I would rather be buck naked at school than hungry."

What Camden Said

Today I was asking Charlie if he was going to learn his letters when he was 18 months old, like his sister, or not until kindergarten, like his brother.

Camden overheard me and said,

"Mom!!, I'm a boy, we're not good at math!"

What Camden Said

"Mom, you don't have to come to my bar-be-cue at school today.
Well, you can come if you REALLY REALLY want to.
But please try not to embarass me."
