and then she snapped: i have the best husband ever

I LOVE hydrangeas. Particularly the one in my front yard.The only problem is, it's too big, and it pretty much blocks the view of the rest of the world from the front porch (and makes it real hard to see when carpool is here to pick up Camden in the morning).

I was watching the local news the other day and Ciscoe told me that NOW is the time to transplant hydrangeas.

So I asked hubby real nice.
He said no.
I asked again really really nice.
He didn't say no.
I offered to help. (hahaha!)
He ~~gave up~~ agreed.

Look at that big ol' trunk. And, Charlie apparently slept on the left side of his head.

Shovel casualty. Ooops.

It's out! Now was that really so hard?

The after scene! Now to find something much smaller to plant there.

Moving to the backyard. We decided to divide the hydrangea (Ciscoe said we could!) and plant it in TWO places, you know, spread the love around a little!

I said thank you to the best husband ever about 17 times.

I move stuff all the time...well, actually I USED to move stuff all the time...having little people running/crawling around makes it a bit tough now...:) Just give it lots of water!

Looks like Charlie was quite the helper! We've transplanted small flowers before...mostly successful I would say.

Great husband! I like mums in the fall. I also like any flowering bushes, tulips, and roses. I've never had the guts to move a huge bush or plant. I would be devastated if it died, because I imagine moving it, is a lot of hard work.

I think you secretly have a crush on Ciscoe and just don't know it. Yes, you have a a pretty great husband, but he has a pretty great wife too! :-)

I love moving things around in our yard. When we moved in there were about 15 perennials in two tiny beds in the back of the yard (about 20 square feet total). We moved and split all the plants and now, three years later, we have two massive beds that are completely filled and we were able to plant a bed along an entire side of our house. My favorite from that big project was the resulting irises. We started with three plants and now have about 40 of them. They look amazing in the spring.

I LOVE hydrangeas too.
We dug one up cos it was taking over our backyard - wish I'd read this post first and then I could have TRANSPLANTED it instead :(

We DID attempt to transplant some roses from backyard to front... I think they died :(

Now I have to "harvest" hydrangeas from the ones that poke through neighbours' fences on my way home.

Your post made me giggle. I like how you "helped " by recording the event in photos for posterity! I LOVE hydrangeas. My pop used to call them snowball plants, don't know if that's a legit nickname for them, but they make me think of him. Oh, and I also love daffodils. I've had success moving a big lilac bush- so good luck with your transplant!
