I got a new lens today! It's the new
50mm f/1.8 AF-S lens from Nikon (the AF-S is the key part so that the lens will autofocus on my
D5100). I'm not sure if I love it yet (the lens, I mean, the camera I am head over heels in love with). The 50mm kinda feels too "zoomy-inny" (yes, it's a word) compared to my 35mm, so I feel like I need to take a step back so I can get more in the picture.
And also, "Daddy's HOME!":
(this was taken with my new lens, see how I cut off the top of his head?)
I have a 50mm 1.8 and I do feel like it is very zoomy-inny. I love it but have been wanting to get a lens where I don't have to back up as much.
ReplyDeleteRach, I love this shot. Did you know that on a non-full-frame DSLR, this 50mm lens acts more like a 75mm lens? Which will make it feel more zoomy. Your 35mm will approximate a 50mm. It has to do with the smaller sensor size of your camera.

Love my 50mm..... except when i'm inside!
ReplyDeleteI have a 50 mm for Canon and I know exactly what you are saying. It requires me to move a lot to get a good shot but, since it was all I had I got used to it and love it especially for outdoor portraits and indoor dark sessions when I need to suck in as much light as possible. If I had a 35mm I would like that range better!
ReplyDeleteI have nothing to add about your lens because i am clueless :-) but i love this shot. It looks like Charlie is praying. :-)
ReplyDeleteSkull and bones! Oh my how cute!
ReplyDeleteI have the Nikon 35mm 1.8 and was thinking of getting the 55mm 1.4 for my next lens.. but I can't decide on that (do I need another prime) or a zoom lens like a 28-75mm. I'm a little worried it will be, like you said, too "zoomy- inny" ;) So I like your thoughts on it..
ReplyDeleteI love getting new toys! Have fun with it! Great shot by the way! I love my little one's expression every time her daddy gets home!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. I use it for portraits but walk around I use my 17-70.
ReplyDeleteI agree...I feel like you have to stand a mile away when I use my 50mm/1.8 on my Canon (not good in a tiny house). Plus the images are ultra soft at 1.8. But your pictures is adorable :)
ReplyDeleteI have a 35 mm/1.8. I love it. But I have the opposite problem. I like closeups so when I use this lens, and I always do indoors, I feel like I am constantly having to move in close, but maybe that's better than having to back up because you can always run out of room. I would like to have both actually. Yes, I love camera toys! I just wish everything wasn't so expensive! Have fun and enjoy!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot! I am on the lookout for a 50mm as well. looks like it takes great shots.
ReplyDeletesuch a cutie face! :)
You are not laone with it, I just got my 55mm 1.8 on tues and am having to leearn how to use it.ai really to get out play with but haven't had the time yet
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures/lens.. It will come in handy when you're on the playground!!

I know what you mean about it being a little close. I loved it for the first few months that I had it (but I only had kit lens to compare it to). Now I'm wanting the 35mm. I've found myself switching back to my kit to get that wide angle view. I got tired of all my pictures having that same cropped in look. However, you'll get some awesome pictures outside with awesome bokeh. :)
ReplyDelete'daddys home' is priceless!
