and then she snapped: How to Make a Camera Strap Cover

How to Make a Camera Strap Cover

OMG you guys, I suddenly got crafty.  Which is, like, totally not me, except for the fact that I'm cheap and if I can do it myself and not spend the money then dammit, I'm gonna.  (except for the whole housecleaning thing, I would GLADLY pay somebody...anybody...to do that).  So I decided that I wanted to cover my camera strap with a cute ruffly strap like I had seen on the world wide web.  And here's what it looks like all done:

Trust me, people, if I can do this, YOU can totally do this.  Here's how!

Cut a strip of fabric about 4 1/2 inches wide by 25 inches long:

Iron on some fusible interfacing to give the fabric a little more oomph:

On one of the skinny ends fold over about a half inch and iron, then fold over and iron again:

Hem a straight line.  You could also sew another line next to it to make it look more finished.  Repeat on the other short edge:

Next cut out a strip about two inches wide by about 48 inches long.  You want it to be approximately twice as long as your strap which in this case is 24 inches.  This is going to be the ruffle.
Iron both sides in as shown below.  Use a piece of cardstock to help as you iron to keep it fairly straight.  Then sew each folded side.  I used a zig-zag stitch, but you don't have to.

Next sew a basting stitch down the center of your "ruffle".  This is the widest stitch you can do.  On my sewing machine it's a 4.  When you're done pull the bottom thread and slide the fabric up, making your ruffle.

Once you have it pretty evenly ruffled then you want to stitch it onto your strap.  Iron your strap in half, right sides in, so you can eyeball where the ruffle needs to go.  I pinned each end and about the middle, to keep the ruffle evenly-ish spaced on the strap.  Sew a straight stitch right down the middle of the ruffle, but make sure you sew it on just one half of your strap.  I also sew the end of the ruffle down so that the edges aren't all flappy.

Almost done!

Next, fold your strap in half, right sides in, with the ruffle inside and sew on the open long end:

Then turn your "tube" right side out.

Iron your strap flat (but not your ruffle), and...tada!:

What do you think?  Should I sell these?  How much would you pay for it?  What about a giveaway?  Would you guys be interested in that?
